Why it happens
Target-size compression lowers quality step by step until the file fits. NativeActions stops before the result becomes unacceptable and shows “The requested size cannot be reached at an acceptable quality” or “That size would reduce quality too much in the original format.” Your original file is unchanged.
What you can do
- Choose a larger target size.
- Resize the image or video first. Fewer pixels usually save far more space than lower quality.
- Convert to a more efficient format, such as WebP or AVIF for images, before compressing.
- For PNG screenshots and graphics, remember that PNG is lossless and may stay large.
When the original is already small
If a file is already smaller than the target, NativeActions keeps its quality instead of making it worse, and says that the original quality was preserved.
