Start from the original
JPEG is lossy. Compressing an already-compressed result repeatedly can add artifacts. Start each attempt from your best original rather than feeding one output into the next.
Choose a setting
Select the photos and begin with the gentler Compress option. Compare edges, fine textures and smooth areas. Try stronger compression only if the first result is still too large.
When size targets fail
A detailed image may require more data than a simple one at the same dimensions. If a target is unreachable within the quality policy, explicitly resize or choose an appropriate Optimize preset.
