Audio detail removed by a lossy codec cannot be recovered with another export. Keep the original and listen to the result, including quiet passages and high-frequency detail.

Select the audio file and choose a Compress option. Wait for the result, compare its size, then listen in the intended player before sending it or removing anything.
Keep the format in mind
Formats offer different compression opportunities. Compress keeps the format; conversion to another audio format is separate. A strict target can fail if the source cannot meet it within the operation’s settings.
